How do you feel on my theory on rap music?
I feel that rap music these days are always yelling about money, gold chains, jewerly, cars, etc because they are all phallic symbols (Symbols of power) and most of rap artists are black (Its true so don't call me racist) and this is their way of saying that black people could be powerful too. What do you think?

- I concur with your theory, but I think that black people are saying how they rise after segegration..but not a lot of rappers talk about how black people are more powerful than the rest.
- You forgot to mention the rap crap (it's not music, it's crap) with lyrics about killing cops, hijacking cars, theft, killing whitey, and referring to women as bitches and hoes.
- i can understand why you think that, but if your a teenager most kids like it. some rap is pretty good (like grillz =]) but seriously i like it. you either love rap or u hate it.
- I think it's their way of saying, "Look what I have, I've made it. I have it & you want it !!" I think that it's the same though whether they're black or white. Eminem's music is some of the most hateful, racist music out there (By the way, I do like it) but he still is sending the same basic message with his vidoes. He's a poverty level person who made it "out" of the bad area of detroit. My personal opinion is they just want to flaunt their money. Now, back in the 90's, when gang banging was HUGE. Every rapper had a gun (the biggie, tupac thing happened)so yes, I think that was all about power with a little bling thrown in. That was a watch your back cuz I can take you out time.
- Rap is like Insurance, its a way to make a job and money without actually doing anything for it. Rap is aweful. The grammer is what makes me hate it the most.
- Yes I do mostly agree. Its complicated but pretty much along those lines.
- There is bad rap music just like there is god awful country music, top 40 music, metal, etc. Unfortunately when music is "dumbed down" to the lowest common denominator as the Hollywood money making machine dictates, you are often left with catchy tunes of little value. Not all rap bands are bad IMO, or just have superficial lyrics, Public Enemy for example.
