I have been listening to rap music for 5 years. I first discovered it when I was 13, now I'm 17yrs old. My favorite music of all time is grunge but old school rap suits me just fine. Today's so called "rap" music is filled with negative images and lyrics of nothing but false power, money, hate, murder, 20 in rims, constant swearing, arrogance, "bling", and sexist lyrics. I feel as if the game has sort of turned rotten but I continue to listen because of the background music. Now I know that some say that the music tells stories about black life, oppression and struggles but I feel that they've lost sight of the real meaning of rap music. Not everyone raps so negatively but I feel rap music has influenced our culture to act out the fake image that they see in the music videos and on the covers of cd's and movies. It adds to the "black thug" and "sex crazed black women" stereotype. But I also still love to listen to it. What do you think?
